PREVENTATIVE DENTISTRY

FLUORIDE TREATMENT

Fluoride treatment is a way for preventative dentistry. Dentists topically apply fluoride onto the teeth during fluoride treatment to prevent tooth decay. Fluoride helps to remineralize tooth enamel, making it stronger and healthier.

We recommend a professional fluoride treatment if you or a family member are at a moderate to high risk of developing dental caries. The fluoride preparation used in the dental office is a much stronger concentration than the one in toothpastes or fluoride mouth rinses that are available in the  stores .

Professional fluoride treatment takes just a few minutes. The fluoride may be in the form of a solution, gel, foam or varnish. Typically, it is applied with a cotton swab or brush, or it is used as a rinse or placed in a tray that is held in the mouth for several minutes. After the treatment, you may be asked not to rinse, eat or drink for at least 30 minutes to allow the teeth to absorb the fluoride and help repair microscopic carious areas.

Fluoride treatments may be recommended every three, six, or 12 months depending on your oral health status and caries risk. We offer fluoride treatment as part of our regular teeth cleanings.

DENTAL SEALANTS

Dental sealants are an amazing way to protect and prevent your teeth from tooth decay. Prevention is the key in maintaining a healthy mouth.

What is dental sealant?

Dental Sealant is a thin plastic coating that covers the teeth and fills in the grooves on the chewing surface of your back teeth and prevents germs and food from getting into the grooves to prevent tooth decay formation.

Why is dental sealants important for my kids?

Dental sealants can prevent the majority of tooth decay in children who often have trouble brushing their back teeth (molars) where most teens and kids get cavities.

When should my child get dental sealants?

The best time to have your teeth sealed is right after the molars come into the mouth to help prevent decay. Molars come into a child’s mouth in two waves, with the first being around 6 years of age and the second around 12 years of age. We recommend sealing after both phases of molar growth.

What is the process for placing dental sealants?

We start with cleaning the tooth, then we apply special gel to the surface of the tooth, gel is washed, tooth is dried and then the sealant is applied to the tooth. A directed light is used on the tooth to help harden the sealant. The whole process is very quick and painless.

DENTAL NIGHT GUARDS

Do you grind your teeth at night?

Bruxism is a problem in which you unconsciously grind or clench your teeth. Grinding and clenching can damage your teeth and greatly affect your mouth while you sleep without you even knowing it. Grinding can also lead to headache, facial pain, muscle tension in your face or neck, and pain when chewing . If you suffer from any of these issues, dental night guards might be the solution for you.

What is the difference between off-the-shelf and custom-fitted mouth guards or sport guards?

Over the counter products are the one-size fits all solution that are found at your local drug stores or sport stores, but they do not offer ultimate protection or comfort. We do not recommend the use of off-the-shelf mouth guards for regular use. Custom-Fitted mouth guards are individually fitted and offer better dental protection. Our dentists can custom-fit your dental guard in our office. Once the mouth guard is designed (off-site), adjustments can be made during your dental appointment to ensure a perfect fit for your mouth.

What types of mouth guards do we make?

  • Custom-fit night mouth guards
  • Custom-fit sports protection mouth guards
